Sorry, I neglected this blog during the past week. At least I have a good excuse: last Thursday I left for a rather spontaneous business trip to Frankfurt, Germany. So most of my week’s time I spent preparing the journey, carving up the presentation, and I got my regular things done.
On Thursday I left Lyon a little after 7 in the morning by train and 8 hours and two changes later, I arrived at 3pm in Frankfurt. The business meeting took place in the early evening and I was happy to discuss international job sites, translation services, candidate pre-screening, candidate management systems, etc. All in all, I enjoyed the whole thing.
During my absence, only little happened on the online recruitment markets. SimplyHired’s new country launches have been well covered by my blogger fellows Thorsten (German), Cheezhead (US), Steven Fowler (UK) and Geoff Jennings (AUS).
Out of these, there are two posts that caught my special attention: the one from Cheezhead because he figured out the next SH countries (Germany, Spain and France) and Geoff Jennings’ article. He stated that SH will have big problems to gain foothold on the Australian market since it is dominated by Seek and they do not allow job search engines to crawl their site. On a side note, read the post’s comments, too.
Anyway, if SH is launching in Germany, I do not see much potential for them there, either. The market is saturated and new players have either to buy their way in or die in the process of trying to get big.
