job site france with job matching functionMeteojob.com, this was the correct answer of last week’s job site quiz. The lucky winner is Thomas Schulze over at Spirofrog. Congratulations!

Meteojob has a distinctive characteristic as its name (météo - French: weather forecast) suggests: candidates who register and fill in their profile on the site, are displayed jobs that correspond best to the data they have provided. For those vacancies that fit most, a little sun is displayed next to the ad meaning that applicants should give it a try. The cloudier the weather gets, the less successful your application is likely to be.

Nice idea. I have tested their system and was disappointed: even though I had set up a very popular marketing, sales and communications user profile, I only received jobs that were marked with thounderclouds (there were a few sales jobs, so this is actually what I’m doing at work…). Apart from that, none of the vacancies were based in the region I had indicated (Lyon). Great!

At least two thirds out of the “more than 15,000″ job roles that are live on the site have been posted by recruitment agencies such as Adecco, Manpower, Adia and temp agencies. I am aware that this may sound pretty normal for the British recruitment market. However, for most of the other European job board markets, this fact is rather a sign of a less qualitative job site.

I’m not much surprised to mainly find these agencies on their site: with an official list price of 198 Euros per job ad, these firms will certainly have large discounts on the masses of job ads they are uploading onto the job board.

Conclusion: disappointing.
